(Re-published with permission of Go Fly A Kite)

What To Look For. What kites to use.

Wind Speed What To Look For What Kite Is Best
0-5mph LIGHT BREEZE - wind felt on face, leaves rustle Large Delta Kites
6-10mph GENTLE BREEZE - leaves and small twigs in constant motion, wind extends light flag Delta Kites, Dragon Kites, Big-wing Stunt Kites
11-15mph MODERATE BREEZE - raises dust and loose paper, small branches move Diamond Kites, Cellular Kites, Parafoils, Soft Stunt Kites
16-20mph FRESH BREEZE - small leafed trees begin to sway: crested wavelets form on inland waters Small Stunt Kites
21mph+ STRONG BREEZE - large branches move: umbrellas difficult to control. We do not recommend flying kites in winds stronger than 21 mph.
